Is-Land

Boy the post about Pitcairn Island has generated so much interaction, I'm almost tempted to continue discussing it until it becomes a complete and utterly useless topic.

But let me tell you how I found out about the island. It was on the CNN website a few days ago. And definitely NOT for good reasons. Here's why.

The island, as I mentioned, is a British colony and hence falls under their governance. A British police officer who happened to be on the island a few weeks ago was told by a woman on the island that the men of the island have sexually abused young girls - as young as 12 years old. The men in Pitcairn have claimed that this has been an island tradition or culture for ever since the island was inhabited by them.

So now they had to ship (and I'm serious about this) a jail, some lawyers, a judge and the media over to the island for the trial of all these men being tried for sexual abuse. Here is the funny side of the story - the presence of these many people for the trial has effectively doubled the population of the island. Also, the entire island folk are pleading for the men to be released because the seven men being tried represent half of the male population of Pitcairn and without them there is no one to man the boats and hence their survival is in jeopardy.

This is one of those horrific things that makes you laugh and makes you feel glad about being where you are. I bet that as of right now, no matter how picturesque it is, Pitcairn is NOT a place to hang out on.

Wot say?

If you really want to find a secluded island, I'd pick one with better hobbies.

what a joke!!! man talk about men and society...I was wondering if these men represent 50% of the population then there is a total of 14 men in that island.. so think of it... are they abusing their own kith and kin.... shame on them!!!! bloody damn incest....why not just push them in the sea and import some decent men...

Well at least we're all in agreement that you can't treat child abuse as a part of culture or tradition and that all these men deserve to be in prison for the rest of their lives. If that means that the island is no longer habitable, then that's even better. At least those women will get to live on mainland where there are some rules to prevent such behavior.

Okay enough about the island...no more post coming from me on that.
